PASTORAL INITIATIVES FOR 2025

The Archdiocese of Lilongwe has as its mission, continuation of Christ’s healing ministry, achieved through the promotion of human life and the provision of preventive, curative, and rehabilitative services in a holistic manner undertakes multiple pastoral, social development and investment initiatives.

In the pastoral realm, the Archdiocese’s mission of evangelization, spiritual formation, and social service has planned various selected pastoral initiatives include: Construction of a priest retirement home for the Archdiocese of Lilongwe, Implementation of the Archdiocesan synod, strengthening youth structures in the archdiocese, promoting Laudato Si’ among the youth in the archdiocese and construction of priests’ Houses at the seven new parishes.

The archdiocese will also enhance pastoral efficiency through ongoing formation of newly ordained priests in the archdiocese. It will also provide means of transport for various priests include some who serve as chaplains.

Congress of Children set for August, 2025

The Catholic Church in Malawi has expressed its commitment in nurturing a strong future generation of Christians as well as the citizens.

Bishop president of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) under the Malawi Conference of Catholic Bishops (MCCB), who is also the Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lilongwe, His Lordship Vincent Mwakhwawa stressed the importance of mentoring children on the value of unity and engaging them in various teachings as one way of enhancing their overall well-being.

Bishop Mwakhwawa made the sentiments at the Catholic secretariat in Lilongwe during a press briefing aimed at updating the nation on the upcoming national children’s congress. His lordship mentioned that the Church’s goal is to raise Christians who will become responsible citizens, committed to making a positive impact in their communities.

In her remarks, the Chairperson of the organizing committee of the congress, Mrs. Tina Kandodo said that all committees are working hand in hand in order to have a successful congress, anticipating to have 8 children from various parishes.

The congress will be held at St Don Bosco Parish in the Archdiocese of Lilongwe from 30 July to 5 August 2025, under the theme “Children Missionaries of Hope”.
